I have been having such a fun week with Annie here! On Saturday we took a day trip to Bologna. We had a wonderful time traipsing about the free sights and eating delicious gnocchi. Noms.
Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day, so I took the chance to give Annie a proper tour of Ferrara, so we hopped on our bikes (well, Dasha’s and Carter’s bikes, but that’s beside the point)… it was so cool to be able to show Annie around. I think that since I have really settled in here I have started to forget how beautiful the city can be. We spent the afternoon exploring the cemetery and the city walls. It is so special to me to be able to share my Italian life with Annie, so this was a great start to our visit.
Monday… I don’t think we did anything too interesting because, unfortunately, I had to do a lot of important things for school…
Tuesday was so fun. We met with our friends from CIEE for an evening cooking class. We learned how to make eggplant parmesan, and after the lesson, we began our dinner extravaganza. The all-night-food-fest began with aperativi (spritz, cheese, nuts, ceci, crackers, oh my!), and moved on to our four course meal. We started with our delicious eggplant parmesan, moved on to pumpkin risotto with shaved white truffle (um. wow.), then came the eggs. Oh, my god, the eggs. Our third course consisted of scrambled eggs served on bruschetta with a parmesan cream sauce. Mmmmmmmmmm…. Just when I thought I was going to EXPLODE, they brought out the apple tart. Dear lord. I think that I was still full on Wednesday morning when I woke up! We managed to lift our own weight and make our way to Tsunami for happy hour, and had a few drinks, met some crazy kid from Comacchio, and ran into some friends before slowly taking our stuffed selves back to my apartment. *Phew*
Wednesday. Yes. It was so exciting to share an Italian Wednesday with Annie. After my morning classes, Annie and I met with Carter and finally did a tour of the castle. I have been here for a solid 2 months and I have just made it to the castle. By far, the best part was climbing to the top of the highest tower where we had an amazing view of the city. Later that evening, we enjoyed a box-wine fueled Wednesday in the piazza which ended with a dance party of three in my bedroom before we went to sleep… overall a good night.
Sigh. Now it is Thursday, and we are having a relaxing night of movies and recooperation. Tomorrow we’re jet-setting (train setting?) to Verona because my class was cancelled (woo!) and this weekend we are going to scrape together some costumes and find some kinda festa for Halloween. Overall, things have been really fun. More pictures soon!
Don’t forget to check out Annie’s blog!!
On a strict update note, I have a test next week in a class which is almost always cancelled, so that is exciting, and even more exciting, I am flying to Dublin during the time of the test, so I’ll have to figure out when to take it later…. and I am finished with one of my classes (except the exam, of course), peace out, Filologia!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY (tomorrow) SEAN!!!!
