Sorry about the late post! I have been really busy. I had such a wonderful visit with Annie this weekend! It was short, but certainly sweet. After many hours of travel (via bus, train, train, bus, plane, train, bus, feet) I finally made it to Annie’s flat. Now I’m going to copy and paste what Annie had to say about our visit (sorry to be so lazy, but there is a lot to talk about. Forgive me, Annie!)
“We spent Friday: going to Borough Market, eating a delicious picnic from said market, walking back while drinking delicious coffee, taking pictures, walking through Trafalgar Square, fish and chips for dinner, a crazy night at the pub (including a karaoke incident that I will not describe in detail), and the invention of our Mighty Boosh drinking game.
Saturday we slept in, got up and on our way to the theater to see Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Now, there is a 2 hour interlude including a very large transportation debacle, but I won’t detail that either. Inconveniences aside, we got to the theater JUST in time, and really enjoyed it! We walked around London some more, just enjoying the nice weather and each others company. Found a Persian place for dinner and had some delicious tapas including: hummus, naan, some really amazing lamb creations, and olives. We spent the night in watching Lord of the Rings and skyping with Gina and Caroline (which always results in sore abs from laughing so damn hard), because we had to go to bed early in order to be up really early to get Megan to the train station on time. I spent the majority of the night working on my video for my collab project, and got 2 hours of sleep before getting up to unwillingly take Megan to Liverpool Street station. I saw her off and trudged back to my flat where I went back to my bed and slept.”
I think that Annie did a wonderful job summing that up, so thanks to her (check out her blog, edgyasasatsuma.tumblr.com)! I had such an amazing time, and it really made me realize that, though I love being in Ferrara, I really need to do some more travelling. As confusing as the Italian train system can be at times, it is overall a very convenient resource.
I started school yesterday! I am not entirely certain which classes I am taking, because everything is a bit confusing, but I have a good idea. One class is called “Fiologia Della Letteratura Italiana” (Philology of Italian Literature). Now, let me tell you that I had to look on Wikipedia to find out what Philology means in English, so that should give you an idea of how lost I am sometimes in class. Generally, I am figuring things out as I go along, and I am finding that university in Italy is not as scary as I thought it would be. Tomorrow I am going to my first Roman History class. I am excited about it, but I hope that it will count for the right number of credits…fingers crossed!
This week is all very exciting, because it is chock full of new beginnings! Along with school and the new apartment (tomorrow!), I went to my first ultimate practice yesterday. The team (the Discaz) is a mixed, indoor team, and there are about 12 people, as I understand. At yesterday’s practice I was one of 6, and the only girl. We spent most of the two hours working on fitness, and it was a rude awakening as to how out of shape I got this summer. My legs are killing me! I am a bit nervous because Enrico said we would be really working out our legs tomorrow, so I’m a bit scared to go back, but I know that I’ll become a better player, and who can say no to getting into better shape?
I’m having a great time right now, and I love feeling more connected and involved in the university community. Erasmus events start soon, and I can’t wait to continue travelling through Italy. I hope everyone is well!
