I know I am overdue for a lot of upates (read: the beginning of December and my trip to Rome), but I have packed all of my things, and now I am just waiting to go to the airport. I just got home from Commandment XI where I had to say the hardest “see you later” to Ashley and Sean. So cut me some slack. Be in the states soon. All my love. Megan

You're practically in Africa!
I am the worst, I know. But you must understand that it is difficult to keep up with this blog with everything that is going on, especially in these crucial final moments of my experience. That being said, I will be posting a bunch of updates of life dating back to about a month ago! For starters: Sicilia- So, I went to Sicily with my friend Molly at the end of November, and it was incredible. We...

And how does that make you feeeeel?
I’m not sure where to begin. I don’t have an update about a big trip, but I have been thinking a lot lately about life here and the inevitable moment when I will have to say goodbye to everything and everyone. I guess a couple weeks ago I went through my first real homesick phase since I’ve been here (which is pretty good, considering it came three months in). I just was thinking...

Halloween, Birthday, Dublin
Okay. It has come to my attention multiple times that I have been less than great about updating the ole blog recently… apologies! To pick up where I left off, I ended my visit with Annie with a lovely day trip to Verona and a really fun Italian Halloween. Verona is an incredible city. The leaves were just changing, so the whole city, along with being gorgeous, was crisp with young fall. I...

Slapped in the face with quasi-reality...
So, this week I have been doing my best to prepare for my first test. Although I would say that, generally, I have been keeping up rather well in my classes, I honestly did not see this test coming. About a week ago, my Storia Romana professor announced that we had finished the first “module” of the class, and that there would be a test this Friday. I guess I am so used to Richmond...

Annie, Bologna, Spalmella, Gelato, Spalmella,...
I have been having such a fun week with Annie here! On Saturday we took a day trip to Bologna. We had a wonderful time traipsing about the free sights and eating delicious gnocchi. Noms. Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day, so I took the chance to give Annie a proper tour of Ferrara, so we hopped on our bikes (well, Dasha’s and Carter’s bikes, but that’s beside the point)… it was so cool to be...

Pretty Damn Excited About Life....
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Annie is coming to visit on Friday and she is staying for a whole week (and then some!!!) wheeeeeeee! I don’t even know where to begin to express how exciting this is to me. Also, it has come to my attention that by the end of this semester (in Europe) I will have seen her more times that I ever have in any other semester (in Virginia). Also, I...

For every rainy day there is a cappuccino
This morning, as I was walking to school, I was in a hurry because I was a bit late. As I rushed down the street, I shoved my hands in my pockets and tried to stay warm. In this moment I thought to myself, ‘gosh, I wish there was more light on this road, the buildings block the sun!’ A few seconds later I found myself thinking, wait a minute. These beautiful, Renaissance Italian...

WatchWatch
Varying the media I post on my blog with a little video! Alright, fine, I mostly took this video out of self-pity and the desire to demonstrate how hard it was raining on my walk home. Overall, its pretty funny that I walked to my apartment with my new comforter shielding my head. “So I was walking home, and I don’t have my bike because it was stolen, and I still have about, oh, ten minutes...

Don't get too attached...
…to your bike because, it’s not really yours, it belongs to all of Ferrara. Just face it, chances are it will get stolen. I scoffed. I didn’t believe it, but it’s true. In this tiny, and normally incredibly safe city, I have become the victim of its most prevalent crime, bike theft. This evening after a wild night of watching a movie at Carter’s apartment, I left to...

I JUST BOOKED FLIGHT TO DUBLIN!
I’m going the weekend of November 6th (flying out Friday morning and returning Monday morning)!!! Hooray! My friend Shaina told me about a really cheap flight, so I’m going with her and two of her friends, and Annie might meet us there! :) Happy birthday to me!

Firenze, Fires, and Ferrarese Fun
Wow, that was a horrible title, but I’m sticking to my guns and keeping it (aka I am too tired to try to think of something better. Moving on. Last weekend, Carter and I took a short trip to Florence. It is quite close to Ferrara via train, so we left Saturday morning and got home on Sunday night. After buying tickets for one train, and going rogue by hopping on a different one (seriously,...

Don't hate me because I love generic Nutella.
Spalmella rocks (even if is an insult to Nutella, as Dasha told me) because it costs something like 2 euro less than Nutella, so there. :) I promise to crank out a Florence update soon… things have been a bit busy these days.

Mushy Peas and Philology
Sorry about the late post! I have been really busy. I had such a wonderful visit with Annie this weekend! It was short, but certainly sweet. After many hours of travel (via bus, train, train, bus, plane, train, bus, feet) I finally made it to Annie’s flat. Now I’m going to copy and paste what Annie had to say about our visit (sorry to be so lazy, but there is a lot to talk about....

Heard today in Ferrara
Regarding a black hot air balloon flying over the city:
Bambina: Un'altra!
Pappa: Si, mi amore, un'altra. E nera!
Bambina: Come Obama!
Pappa: Si, come Barack Obama.
